Safety
How Eat With Me keeps meals between students, in public places, and what to do if something goes wrong.
In an emergency, call 911 or USC DPS at 213-740-4321 (University Park) or 323-442-1000 (Health Sciences).
Who you'll meet
Only people who sign in with a USC email (Google, @usc.edu) and confirm they're 18 or older. Everyone you match or sit with is a USC student.
Where you'll meet
Every meal and every table is at a restaurant, cafe or other public place to eat listed on Google Maps. There's no field for a home address.
Blocking
- Where
- The "…" menu on a match card, a meal, a profile, a chat, a table member, or a memo.
- What happens
- You leave any chat you share, and a pending match is declined. A meal for just the two of you is called off, and at a table you give up your seat; neither counts against you. Follows end. They aren't told.
- How it hides you
- You stop seeing each other in matching, search, profiles, and chats, and a table either of you is seated at disappears from the other's list.
- Undo
- Only the person who blocked can undo it, in Settings. Undoing it doesn't bring back the old chat.
Reporting
Report from the same menus, and pick a reason. The person you report can't see who reported them. Report and block are separate - do either, or both.
- Made me feel unsafe
- Harassment, threats, or hate
- Sexual messages or behaviour I didn't want
- Pretending to be someone else
- Spam, scam, or selling something
- Something else
Check-in
Check-in opens shortly before the meal and records that it happened. Tap I'm here, or use a four-digit code. Your location is checked once, then thrown away.
Your privacy
When you search, your location is rounded on your phone to an area about 500 meters across before it's sent, and dropped when your search ends. Checking in by location sends your exact position once, to compare with the restaurant, then throws it away. Nobody sees where you are.
Messages aren't end-to-end encrypted: the people in the chat can read them, and our team only does to investigate a report or a safety incident, or where the law requires it.
